Meta identifies AI, messaging as key drivers for MSMEs growth in India
As over 92% of businesses on Meta’s platforms in India identify as MSMEs, the company is doubling down on AI-driven advertising and WhatsApp-based commerce
Meta Platforms Inc. identified Artificial Intelligence (AI) and messaging as the key drivers for the “next phase of growth” for small businesses in India, as the company looks to help enterprises scale beyond local markets.
First, the integration of AI-powered tools. The company is promoting its Advantage+ suite and Generative AI creative tools to help businesses automate marketing campaigns, improve advertising performance, and generate creative assets more efficiently.
“We have been running Meta Ads for the last 4 years. Using the AI-powered Advantage+ Shopping campaign has been a game changer,” said Upamanyu Borkakoty, founder of Woolah Tea, who reported a 600 per cent increase in orders within six months of shifting his strategy.
Second, the evolution of WhatsApp into a core business engine. Meta noted that more than 200,000 small businesses in India use Click-to-WhatsApp ads every month to generate leads, showcase products, and manage customer conversations.
“We have used several Meta tools from the very beginning, and currently, Advantage+ is the one we extensively use to help us scale much more efficiently. We also use Instagram as the window for our brand and the community we are building. Running Instagram Partnership Ads has proven to be very fruitful,” Rimjim Deka, Founder of Littlebox India, said.
Meta brought together nearly 350 entrepreneurs from across the Northeast of India in Guwahati on Saturday to mark World Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day, an event where the company, led by founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg, continued its push to promote the role of digital tools in accelerating small business growth.
Meta-commissioned research from the Institute of Public Opinion and Social Research (IPSOS) stated that 73 per cent of surveyed rural users discover new brands through Meta platforms. The study further indicated that Meta’s services influence product discovery for 81 per cent of users and purchase decisions for 47 per cent.
“Meta’s MSME initiatives empower businesses to think bigger, market smarter, and unlock opportunities that once seemed out of reach,” Punam Gogoi, Founder, CareerClass, said.
