Reliance Industries promoters raise stake to 50.48%, highest in seven years
RIL’s promoters purchased shares from open market, raising their stake by 0.48 per cent
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) promoter group has increased its stake in the conglomerate by 48 basis points (bps) to 50.48 per cent in June quarter, marking the largest such hike in seven years.
RIL’s promoters purchased shares from open market, raising their stake by 0.48 per cent, according to a stock exchange filing.
The promoters, according to market analysts, have estimated to have invested about ₹8,500-9,000 crore for the purchase.

This is the biggest quarterly increase since September 2019, when the promoters’ holdings rose by 2.76 per cent. On June 14, promoters’ shareholding in RIL stood at 46.9 per cent, which rose to 50 per cent as of June 19, and then further to 50.48 per cent, according to a Morgan Stanley report.
Shares of the oil-to-telecom major closed up 2.59 per cent to ₹1,326.50 on the BSE on Friday, ahead of its first-quarter earnings announcement.
The promoter group’s move to increase its holding comes following a prolonged slump in the company’s share price in the wake of the US-Iran war. During the quarter, the stock declined 3.75 per cent to ₹1,293.85.
FIIs sell
While promoters boosted their position, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) reduced their exposure to the firm. FIIs sold a 1.46 per cent stake worth ₹26,000 crore, lowering their total holding to 17.20 per cent—the lowest level in nearly a decade. Specifically, FIIs offloaded 193.3 million shares at an average price of ₹1,343 during the quarter.
Conversely, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bolstered their position, increasing their stake from 20.55 per cent to 21.19 per cent. Retail investor holdings also rose slightly, from 6.96 per cent to 7.16 per cent.
The promoter group’s holdings are largely held through entities, with Srichakra Commercials remaining the largest shareholder at 11.12 per cent, followed by Devarshi Commercials, Karuna Commercials and Tattvam Enterprises, each holding 8.20 per cent. Individual members of the Ambani family, including Chairman Mukesh Ambani, hold smaller, direct stakes.
