Indian Army inks MoU with Zoho to accelerate indigenous digital transformation

In a significant push towards self-reliance in defence technology, the Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zoho Corporation to advance indigenous digital transformation under the Army’s JAI (Jointness, Atmanirbharta & Innovation) framework.

The MoU was signed by Lieutenant General Harsh Chhibber, Director General Information Systems (DGIS), and Rajendran Dandapani, Director of Engineering at Zoho Corporation, in the presence of Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu. The partnership is aimed at building a secure, sovereign and future-ready digital ecosystem for the Indian Army, with a strong emphasis on indigenous technology development and reduced dependence on foreign platforms.

According to official inputs, the collaboration will focus on application-driven research and development, design of secure and scalable digital solutions, and strengthening technology-led capabilities across the force. It will also support the creation of mission-critical digital platforms tailored to operational requirements and enhance cyber resilience within military systems.

Officials said the MoU is expected to significantly boost industry–defence synergy by enabling structured knowledge exchange, joint innovation, and development of robust cyber-secure architectures. The initiative will also help upskill personnel in emerging technologies, reinforcing the Army’s transition into a technology-centric fighting force.

The agreement aligns closely with the government’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, reinforcing India’s push for digital sovereignty in strategically sensitive sectors. The development has also drawn attention in the backdrop of recent public remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had praised Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu at a media event, as noted in media reports.

The Indian Army said the collaboration marks another step in its ongoing digital modernisation drive, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, decision-making speed, and technological readiness for future warfare environments.
