Tech Mahindra partners with SpaceXSI to bring Grok AI coding tools into enterprise workflows
The collaboration will target legacy application modernisation, software development and developer productivity, with a focus on sectors including banking, telecom, manufacturing and healthcare
Tech Mahindra has entered into a collaboration with SpaceXSI to integrate AI-powered software engineering capabilities into its enterprise transformation and application modernisation services, marking a new partnership between a major Indian IT services company and the AI division associated with Elon Musk’s SpaceX ecosystem.
The collaboration will bring SpaceXSI’s AI development platform and Grok Build capabilities into Tech Mahindra’s engineering workflows, helping enterprise customers modernise legacy applications, accelerate software delivery and improve developer productivity. The companies also plan to develop industry-specific solutions and pursue joint customer engagements.
The partnership reflects the growing focus among IT services providers on embedding generative AI and AI-assisted coding across the software development lifecycle, extending its use beyond pilot projects to complex enterprise systems.
Focus on legacy systems, AI-assisted engineering
Under the collaboration, Tech Mahindra will combine its engineering, enterprise transformation and AI consulting capabilities with SpaceXSI’s development platform. The stated objectives include streamlining software development, improving code quality and supporting the modernisation and maintenance of enterprise applications.
Legacy systems remain integral to many large organisations, including those operating in banking, telecommunications and manufacturing. Updating these platforms can require extensive engineering effort because businesses must introduce new capabilities while maintaining the reliability of systems supporting day-to-day operations.
AI-assisted development tools could help software teams accelerate parts of this work, including code generation and modernisation. However, the benefits will depend on how effectively the tools are integrated into existing processes and how organisations manage software quality, security and operational risks.
Tech Mahindra said the offering is designed for enterprise environments, with governance, security and compliance requirements forming part of its implementation approach.
Banking, telecom, manufacturing among target sectors
The partnership will initially target a broad range of industries, including technology, telecommunications, banking and financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and retail.
The companies also plan joint go-to-market initiatives, industry-specific solutions, customer engagements and enablement programmes. Tech Mahindra intends to establish training and certification initiatives, alongside joint customer success programmes, to support wider adoption of AI-assisted software engineering.
Sumit Kumar Popli, President of Tech Mahindra’s Technology, Media and Entertainment business, said enterprises were moving beyond isolated AI experiments towards integrating intelligence across the software development lifecycle.
He said the collaboration would help customers adopt AI-powered engineering at scale while maintaining the governance, security and quality requirements associated with mission-critical applications.
Toni Adams, Head of Global Partnerships at SpaceXSI, said the collaboration would help enterprises introduce AI into large engineering teams without disrupting established workflows. The agreement expands Tech Mahindra’s efforts to incorporate AI into its technology services portfolio.
The company has previously entered into AI-related partnerships with providers including Google and Microsoft, according to Reuters. The SpaceXSI collaboration represents a new addition to this strategy, with a specific emphasis on AI-powered coding and application modernisation.
For SpaceXSI, the deal adds an Indian IT services partner with enterprise engineering and transformation capabilities, creating a route to introduce its AI development tools into customer environments across multiple industries.
The financial terms of the partnership and any revenue targets have not been disclosed. The companies have also not announced quantified productivity gains or a specific implementation timeline.
The commercial impact will ultimately depend on enterprise adoption and whether AI-assisted workflows deliver measurable improvements in development speed, software quality and the cost of maintaining legacy applications.
