Casagrand introduces 8 am–4 pm workday for staff
With the workday concluding at 4 pm, employees gain greater flexibility
Casagrand, a Chennai-headquartered real estate developer, has introduced a start-early, finish-early work culture, shifting its workday from the conventional structure to 8 am–4 pm.
The move, probably first in the Indian real estate sector, would help in providing a work-life balance to its staff, particularly in an industry traditionally associated with long and demanding schedules, the company said in a statement.

Beginning the day at 8 am also allows employees to travel before peak-hour congestion, potentially saving long tiring hours of commuting time each day. With the workday concluding at 4 pm, employees gain greater flexibility in the evenings, allowing them to pursue hobbies, engage in fitness activities, and spend quality time with their loved ones.
“Having a defined and fruitful work-life balance is very important for employees to give their best at work. We believe that conventional work hours can leave employees exhausted, especially with the added stress of commuting during heavy traffic hours,” Sumanth Krishna R, Director, Casagrand, said.
“Additionally, they often leave little time to pursue recreational and fitness activities or spend quality time with their loved ones. Hence, we have chosen unconventional office hours, as employee wellbeing is integral to building a happy, engaged, and productive workforce. The 8 AM to 4 PM shift is a step towards enabling our employees to make the most of their time beyond work, pursue their interests, and maintain a healthier work-life balance,” he added.
This move places greater emphasis on focused and purposeful work while creating more room for life beyond work. The shift challenges conventional work timings and long-hour work cultures, offering a different perspective on what a productive and sustainable workday can look like.
Casagrand Premier Builder is the largest developer in the residential sector in Chennai, with a market share of about 25 per cent in terms of launches and 18 per cent in terms of demand during the period January 1, 2017, to June 30, 2025.
