Planet Launches AI App to Turn Satellite Data into Actionable Earth Intelligence
Open beta combines artificial intelligence with Planet’s high-frequency satellite imagery, giving users a new way to explore, analyse and understand changes unfolding across the planet.
Earth-observation company Planet is opening its new Planet AI app in beta, bringing artificial intelligence together with near-daily satellite imagery to help users explore changes happening across the Earth’s surface and turn large volumes of geospatial data into actionable insights.
The platform represents Planet’s broader vision of “Planetary Intelligence”—using comprehensive Earth-observation data and AI to move beyond simply capturing images of the planet towards understanding what those images reveal.
Planet’s satellite constellation provides frequent observations of locations around the world, creating a continuously updated record of how landscapes, infrastructure and human activity change over time. By combining that data with AI, the company aims to make large-scale Earth observation more accessible and easier to interrogate.
AI alongside satellite data
The new application allows users to use AI alongside satellite data to explore areas of interest, identify patterns and investigate changes that may otherwise require significant amounts of manual analysis.
This convergence could have applications across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, environmental monitoring, disaster response, urban development and resource management. Instead of relying solely on individual satellite images, users can increasingly examine change over time and across large geographic areas.
Planet’s approach reflects a broader shift in Earth observation, where the value of satellite imagery is increasingly determined not only by image resolution or frequency but also by the ability to extract intelligence from enormous datasets.

The application is currently available through an open beta, allowing users to experiment with the combination of AI and near-daily satellite data.
